About Lightingresearch
Excavation Built for Bozeman’s Seasons
Lightingresearch is a local excavation and grading crew serving Bozeman, Montana and the Gallatin County towns around it. We handle site preparation, land clearing, foundation and basement digs, utility trenching, drainage, and driveway base prep, and we plan all of it around the one thing that rules dirt work here: the frost line. A dig that is routine in July can be a different job entirely once the ground locks up in January.
Bozeman sits high in the Gallatin Valley, where the frost pushes deep and the build window is short. That shapes how we sequence work. We stage gravel and fill before a storm, protect an open cut from snowmelt, and hold a firm subgrade so the concrete crew that follows us pours on solid ground. Local knowledge is not a slogan here; it is the difference between a pad that holds and one that heaves.
What We Bring to a Site
- Frost-line scheduling. We read the season and dig when the ground and the plan both allow, winter or summer.
- Compliant, careful work. Sloping, benching, or a trench box on any cut 5 feet or deeper, with an 811 utility locate first.
- Clean grading and drainage. Positive slopes, silt control, and a compacted subgrade built to a 95 percent spec where called for.
- Straight answers. A real person picks up, walks your site, and puts the estimate in writing before we start.
